Nominations for our district’s Independent Certified Teacher of the Year and Collegiate Certified Teacher of the Year will be accepted until Monday, February 15, 2010.  This state-wide program has a two-fold goal: To recognize excellence in music teaching and to measure dedication to OhioMTA/MTNA.  Any Central East District member may nominate any peer who has been nationally certified for at least five years.  The nominee must also be or have been actively involved in OhioMTA/MTNA at the local, state, or national level and must be known for distinguished service and devotion to the cause of music.  Anyone who has received this award in the past cannot be nominated again (see p.11 of the activities guide for past nominees). 

Please take advantage of this opportunity to nominate a teacher who you believe deserves this recognition. From Elegance to Grandiloquence: The Piano Transcriptions of Scarlatti Keyboard Sonatas by Enrique Granados

Friday, January 29 at 10 a.m. at Graves.
This is a bonus workshop not originally scheduled in our directory.   Gulimina Mahamuti, a new Central East member who was a presenter at the 2009 MTNA  National Conference,  will present a lecture recital on the little known Granados transcriptions of the 24 sonatas of Scarlatti. Don’t miss this chance to hear some exciting new literature!   

To fulfill this nomination we must raise $1000 by January 31st.  We have only raised $660.

My name is David Cady and I am the Lead Pastor at the Summit Station United
Methodist Church. We are located five miles east of 270 in the Pataskala /
Reynoldsburg area of the Broad Street corridor. In September we plan to
launch a new Sunday morning worship service. We currently offer a
traditional service and contemporary service, and the new service is
intended to be blended style of hymns and more upbeat contemporary music.
We are looking for a pianist / vocalist to provide leadership in worship for this new service. If you know of a
pianist / vocalist who might be interested in a part-time paid position at

         Program:      “Exploring Performance Anxiety”

Guest Speaker:      Dr. Joyce Alesandrini

      Every performer, professional and amateur, young and old, has suffered through some degree of performance anxiety.  If that performance anxiety is a fact of life for all musicians, how can we face those problems related to stress in performance?  Let’s analyze the causes and effects of our performance anxieties, explore what happens to us physically and psychologically, and learn what we can do to prepare for successful performance through mental imagery, self-talk and relaxation techniques.  Hand-outs, bibliographies, and time for group brain-storming will be provided!  Don’t miss this topic which touches each of us in our musical lives!

Dr. Joyce L. Alesandrini, bassoonist and pianist, is a Professor of Music, and currently the Coordinator of Theory at Muskingum University where she also teaches bassoon, oboe and piano. Additionally, Dr. Alesandrini coordinates the  Gender studies program.  She is a frequent guest conductor, organist, and pianist at area churches and has performed with the Southeastern Ohio Symphony Orchestra, Muskingum Valley Symphonic Winds and the Zanesville Memorial Band.  Dr. Alesandrini received a Bachelor of Music Education from the University of Wyoming, a Master of Music in Bassoon Performance from Northwestern University, and a Ph.D. in Arts Education from The Ohio State University. She was formerly on the faculty at the University of Wyoming and Western Wyoming College where she founded and conducted the Western Wyoming Community Orchestra. For her efforts in bringing the arts to that community she was awarded the Young Career Woman of the Year by the Business and Professional Women chapter. Additionally, she was visiting adjunct professor at Oklahoma State University. She is a member of Music Educators National Conference, Delta Omicron, Phi Kappa Phi, American Association of University Professors, and American Association of University Women.  Dr. Alesandrini was recently elected the founding president of Muskingum University’s Chapter of Phi Kappa Phi.
