Nominations for our district’s Independent Certified Teacher of the Year and Collegiate Certified Teacher of the Year will be accepted until Monday, February 15, 2010.  This state-wide program has a two-fold goal: To recognize excellence in music teaching and to measure dedication to OhioMTA/MTNA.  Any Central East District member may nominate any peer who has been nationally certified for at least five years.  The nominee must also be or have been actively involved in OhioMTA/MTNA at the local, state, or national level and must be known for distinguished service and devotion to the cause of music.  Anyone who has received this award in the past cannot be nominated again (see p.11 of the activities guide for past nominees). 

Please take advantage of this opportunity to nominate a teacher who you believe deserves this recognition. Send a letter with supporting information about the teacher being nominated to Annette Suhovecky, 7642 Glanmore Court, Dublin, OH, 43017 or submit by e-mail to annette@brierhill.net.  Call 889-5348 for more information.

Our district will hold its annual luncheon for new and prospective members after the May 11th board meeting at Westerville Christian Church, 471 East College Avenue, in Westerville.  If you are a new member this year, you will be receiving an invitation in the mail soon.  I hope you will be able to come join us.

I am the musical director for the Pleasure Guild production of “Beauty and
the Beast” that will take place at the Palace Theatre in early March. All
the dates are below.

I need two pianists to play in the pit orchestra and was hoping you could
recommend some advanced players for this show. The production is to raise money for Children’s Hospital and, thus a charity gig, i.e. no money, just a chance to play with a good pit orchestra and a tax write-off. I would be grateful for any names you can give me of good pianists who can play a Broadway show.

The show runs the first weekend in March, 2009. There are 5 performances at the Palace Theatre:
Friday, March 6 at 10:30 am and 7:00 pm
Saturday, March 7 at 2:00 pm and 7:00 pm
Sunday, March 8 at 2:00 pm
Please note the morning show on Friday, for school kids.

There are just four rehearsals:
            Tuesday, March 3, 6:00 pm
            Wednesday, March 4, 6:00 pm
            Thursday, March 5, 6:00 pm (dress)
            and an orchestral run-through, probably on Sunday, March 1, time

Chamber Music Columbus in its 61st season presents the Fine Arts Quartet on Saturday January 31, at 8 PM at the Southern Theatre.

Peter Takacs of Oberlin is the clinician. Professor Takacs is a former Fleisher student, who has an impressive internation reputation, and who has played complete cycles of the Sonatas in concert several times. He is a Beethoven expert and should have a lot to say about Beethoven performance practice and interpretation. There are seven participants.
Bring both volumes of your Beethoven Sonatas. The G major Sonatina will be performed as well. It will be a most worthwhile morning.
