Date:          Friday, November 11, 2011

Time:         10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.

Location:   Graves Piano & Organ Company

Event:        The works of Rachmaninoff are rich with musical and extra-musical associations.  As a youth growing up in Russia, Rachmaninoff was immersed in the sounds of church bells, the chants of Russian Orthodox Church, and the Dies Irae motive from the Roman Catholic Church’s repertory.  Dr. Natenberg’s presentation will discuss how an awareness of these influences can deepen the interpretative experience of Rachmaninoff’s compositions.  The workshop will culminate with Dr. Natenberg’s performance of the composer’s Piano Sonata No. 2, Op. 36, in B flat minor, for piano.

Fees:          No fee for OhioMTA members or non-members.
