1911 Weber Baby Grand Piano – Serial #66835. 6 ft. Philippine Mahogany, refinished and rebuilt with Renner parts, new hammers. Piano was bought from a family who bought it from the Chicago World’s Fair. Reportedly Paderewski played this instrument at the Fair. Early Interval April 10th

After three years of doctoral studies, Gulimina Mahamuti of Mansfield, Ohio, who comes from Karamay City in northwestern China, will receive her Doctorate of Musical Arts in Piano Performance from University of Missouri-Kansas City Conservatory of Music and Dance on May 8, 2010.  She was selected to attend The Harry S Truman Good Neighbor Award Luncheon on May 6, 2010. 

Recently, her article, “Professional Development Makes You Recession-Resistant,” originally published in the Sept/Oct 2009 issue of Clavier Companion, was translated into Italian and appears in Didattica (http://www.aasp.it/Documenti_folder/resistereallarecessione.html).  As a guest artist, Gulimina has accepted the invitation to perform with Southeast Kansas Symphony Orchestra in November, 2010.

Gulimina will be taking over as Piano Workshop Chairman for the Central East District.  Welcome, Gulimina!

This four-hour, hands-on workshop, developed primarily for piano teachers, includes both theory games and lesson planning strategies:

bullet Learn new ways to engage your students in theory games. Ideal for your group theory classes, these games are a great way to invigorate your theory lessons, keeping them fun and relevant – and to build the rhythm and pitch reading skills the students need.

bullet Start your young beginners on a road to success with a five-week program which will delight them and prepare them for success. Singing and moving tune the ear and refine the body, laying the foundation for success in learning to play the piano. The lesson plans fully explain all the singing and movement activities, as well as the keyboard activities which are layered on at an appropriate time and pace.

The Indiana University Jacobs School of Music Piano Academy will celebrate its 25th anniversary this summer! To mark this special event, we are pleased to offer a roster of world-renowned master teachers, who have dedicated their lives to teaching talented young pianists.

Students from across the United States and around the world will participate in two private lessons a week,  master classes, daily group classes, theory, ensemble classes, and student performances. In addition, we offer an opportunity to work with a certified Feldenkrais practitioner. The Piano Academy takes place during the IU Summer Music Festival, a spectacular collection of orchestral performances, chamber music concerts and solo recitals.

It all adds up to three weeks in which gifted pianists are immersed in an intensive and inspiring musical environment, and a community that fosters close friendships and memories that last forever.
